Make this year all about keeping track of your mindset, managing and reframing your focus, prioritizing development, and letting go of the past.

As cliche as it sounds, it is important to outline a clear vision of the goals you want to set for 2021. We’ve all had an overwhelming 2020 so it’s important to head into 2021 with the intentions of managing and reframing your focus, prioritizing self-growth and letting go of the past.

Here are a few simple ways you can kick off your 2021 and make a huge impact on your life.

Pursue happiness, not perfection

Before you go ahead with anything, your fundamental goal should be to seek happiness and not chase perfection. No matter how much you try-  it’s just not going to happen. It’s not going to happen for any of us. Perfection is an entirely unattainable, staged idea in society that only drives us perfectionists nuts when we inevitably fall short at something. While it can be arguably good to chase after perfection in the spirit of self-betterment and growth, there aren’t many perfectionists who are admittedly okay with falling short. The chase to choose happiness is a lot more satisfactory than chasing perfection. Choosing happiness every day can feel like this constant chase. It is. It’s a constant chase in pursuit of something that makes you feel good in that moment. Happiness is subject to YOUR guidelines. What makes you happy isn’t necessarily what makes someone else happy. You can’t necessarily *control* what makes you happy – you just feel it, maybe it’s happiness in your job, maybe it’s in your relationship or it’s the happiness that comes from shopping. Chasing perfection is only going to leave you feeling perpetually dissatisfied with yourself when we continually fail to reach this unattainable pinnacle of perfectionism.

Fix your mornings

Adapting a proper morning routine is extremely important to start your day the right way. Remember that your energy flows into the direction your focus is towards. The first thing you need to do after waking up is: decide. Spend the first 10 minutes asking yourself what exactly you want to direct your energy towards that particular day – is it towards your job, relationship, health, home? Anything is possible. But only if you are willing to focus on what you want and take action towards it. Nothing will happen itself, you will have to manage and reframe your focus. However, remember to pursue happiness, if following a morning skincare routine; making yourself a nice breakfast or working out brings you satisfaction and happiness, then do that thing. Mornings are important, spend them the right way.

Manifest

Without outlining a clear vision of the goals you want to achieve, you are headed nowhere. You can’t create what you want if you don’t know what exactly you want. Write them down and no, not on your phone. Get a paper, physically write them down and then stick that paper somewhere you look regularly like the mirror or the wardrobe. Remember, it’s useless if you don’t have your goals in sight.

Figure out your values

Values are internal guidelines that determine our priorities and let us know when we’re living in sync with what we consider as most important to us. Make a list of things that you value the most. Is it your relationships, work, self-care, success, family? Always refer to YOUR list of values and every time you have to make a decision, look at that list and see if your decision aligns with it. When your actions match your values, you will experience satisfaction, a sense of harmony and peace. But when your actions are out of alignment with your values, you’ll instead feel a sense of unhappiness, anxiety, and despair. This is how you hack your happiness. Building our lives around honouring our values can mean the difference between having ease and tranquillity or having stress, conflict, and uncertainty.

Set boundaries

Learning to establish healthy boundaries is an essential part of living your best life. First and foremost, know which behaviours are and are not acceptable to you. Clarify the repercussions – decide what you’ll do if the boundary is violated. Will you hang up the phone? leave the room? eradicate that person from your life? Decide that but make sure to set realistic boundaries and the repercussions that come when they are violated. You don’t want to set consequences that are unattainable for you. Remember staying true to yourself is imperative. If you want people to take you seriously, communicate. Let others know what your boundaries are and what the consequences are for violating them. Lastly, stick to this and do not be selective otherwise you’re just humiliating yourself. Stop tolerating everything, instead save your energy for the moments and people who deserve it.

 

Other things that you need to make sure you are doing every day include moving your body, self-care and fix your morning routine. You are human, remember that if you want to achieve the aforementioned goals in 2021, you need to provide your brain with the right amount of sleep, prioritize your sleep as if your life depends on it because it does. Another important thing is to move your body, this does not mean you have to necessarily start going to a gym (you should if you want to). Do the bare minimum, spend some time, jogging, walking or even dancing in your own room. It will keep you going, trust. Moreover, it’s so easy to forget to appreciate ourselves in the process of achieving our goals. However, you will not do that this year because you are on the path of greatness, you are unique and you are amazing. Make sure you spend some time of the day admiring everything about yourself, and no there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. A little narcissism hurt nobody!
