Lost and Lonely In Your Twenties – Embrace It

The future is bleak while the past haunts and the present is just constant debilitating pain that comes and goes like the waves of the ocean. Welcome to your twenties.

It would be right to say that the world has shrunk during this pandemic, over the past few months with limited interactions and travel we had time to reflect and ponder over our life choices whiles standing on the balcony and sipping that strongly brewed chai.

Everyone is carrying their own storms and fighting hidden battles while hiding behind filters, this
includes those Instagram influencers with well-written captions and blemished free faces. So, it’s safe to say you are not alone and nobody has their life figured out. Let’s get this straight we are all trying to put our best foot forward at attempting adulthood.

It shouldn’t matter whether you are taking orders at KFC or working 9-5 at a neighborhood bank. A job does not define your self-worth. If you seek contentment from your job while comparing yourself to your former classmate who is now working at a managerial level at a multinational company, you would not be satisfied as they say comparison is the root of all evil. Just shift your focus from comparison to conviction and see yourself flourish.

Furthermore, you need to inherit the concept of time zones. Everyone is experiencing life at their own pace and time zone. Your twin sister might be on her way to securing a Ph.D. while you wait on your order for that upsize double cheeseburger and plan to binge-watch all night. Both lives are distinct and beautiful in their own way so, don’t be in a hurry and waste your life in anticipation of what lies ahead. Live in the moment and learn as you go.

If you have found your soulmate, great. If you are still swiping left on tinder and drowning in depression with every swipe don’t fret it. Yes, having a companion to share the rest of your life with seems like the perfect deal. However, learning to be alone is a skill that you need to master. As cliché as it sounds but once, you learn to enjoy your own company anyone else who comes into your life is just a cherry on top.

Lastly, give yourself some credit and indulge in self-care. By self-care, I don’t mean go on a shopping spree or purchase the latest gaming console. Just give yourself permission to unwind and build a life that you don’t need to escape from and remind yourself you are doing perfectly fine.
