LSA 2022 Is Including Feroze Khan And Sharmeen Obaid Is Returning Her LSA Award

In opposition to Feroze Khan's nomination, Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has declared she will forfeit her LSA lifetime honour.

Despite significant opposition, notably from Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, the Lux Style Awards (LSAs) will not remove Feroze Khan from its nominee list.

The Lux Style Awards said in a statement issued on Wednesday evening, The Lux Style Awards entries are accepted from artists and networks as part of a public request for nominations for inclusion in the finals. The LSA 2022 Viewer’s Choice Category shortlists were determined solely by viewer vote, with no involvement from the Awards.

“As part of our third party, the independent and transparent voting process, which is audited end to end by PricewaterhouseCoopers, LSA cannot participate in short-listing, vetting or excluding any submissions or nominations.”

The LSAs later issued a statement clarifying their position, saying they support “respecting the freedom and diversity of audience views, and does not regulate or limit engagement (except in cases of content with obscene or inappropriate language) on our social media platforms.”

They moved after Obaid Chinoy’s announcement that she would be protesting the LSA 2012 Lux Lifetime Achievement Award she received.

“Lux is a beauty brand that sells soaps to women yet has chosen to allow the nomination of a man known to have violently abused his ex-wife. Its parent company, Unilever, has a global campaign that says no to domestic violence and advocates against it. The company signed up to the United Nation’s SDGs, including SDG 5 on gender equality,” she said, Unilever’s headquarters in Pakistan doesn’t appear to adhere to the same ideals.

Feroze Khan’s participation in the Best TV Actor – Viewer’s Choice category for his play Khuda Aur Mohabbat was the subject of Obaid Chinoy’s comment.

Iqra Aziz, who acted with him in the play, has already dropped out of a joint effort in favour of those who have experienced domestic abuse. She stated in her letter declaring her choice that she supports Khan’s ex-wife Aliza Sultan, who has convicted him of violence.

In October, pictures of Sultan with injuries and her ER and MLO reports began to go viral on social media. Along with a report from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre’s Accident and Emergency Department describing “blunt injuries on both arms, [the] back, chest, and face,” they were part of the papers her legal team presented to a District East Family Court. Additionally, a “little nosebleed” was noted. According to the preliminary diagnosis, it was an “assault.”

Online chatter erupted as a result of famous people openly denouncing domestic violence and showing support for Aliza Sultan. A large group of celebrities from the entertainment sector, including Mariyam Nafees, Usman Mukhtar,  Asim Azhar, Ushna Shah, Mansha Pasha, Osman Khalid Butt, Shae Gill, Minal and Aiman Khan came together to support Sultan wholeheartedly.

Khan subsequently issued a statement in which he categorically denied all claims of mistreatment made against him. He referred to them as baseless, spiteful, and untrue, adding that he has never intentionally damaged any human being as a supporter of individual rights.
