Made in Heaven, show review.

Made in heaven an Amazon Prime series that portrays the dauntingly dark side of the big-fat-Delhi weddings, with a stellar cast

Amazon Prime’s Indian original Made in Heaven unveils the not-so-pretty-side of the high-class veiled ceremonies. The show’s stellar cast included Sohbita Dhulipala, Arjun Mathur, Jim Sarbh, Kalki Koechlin, Shashank Arora, and Shivani Raghuvanshi. While these superbly talented actors work their magic on-screen the guest appearances also add a noticeable spark. Directed by the Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, the two dynamic duos that presented Gully boy to us.

While the story, of  Made in Heaven, mainly revolves around the two wedding planners in Delhi, Tara (Sohbita) and Karan (Arjun), each episode comes with a new story and problem. Tara and Karan mostly work through their plotting, lying, and, on occasion, bold and caring ways, they help join the rich and wealthy South Delhi types and their princesses, in holy union. A union, truly, Made in Heaven.

Made in heaven portrays the real face of the Rich-desi-wedding scene, being as bluntly honest as they possibly can be. Everyone is out to score the biggest score, love is damned, justice is damned and self-respect is damned. From parents looking for the most pious and devout bride for their sons to brides basing their marriage on lies, or marrying for in exchange for a plot in Sanik Farms, to sons even organizing ridiculous beauty pageants to find the “perfect bride”. This shows that underneath all the glitter and gold, everything is dauntingly dark.

Every episode of Made in Heaven has a peculiar couple trying to arrange their perfect wedding, the rich, the royals or even the out of the ordinary union between two old people in love. As the story unravels the rocky truth between the perfect couple, Tara and Adil, also unveils the foundation of the marriage between the two. Tara, once just an office secretary to Adil is now his better half, however, the “gutter she left behind doesn’t stop haunting her. as she will also be the little girl who grew up in a lower-middle-class family, constantly trying to please her extremely rich and poignant in-laws.

Karan, on the other hand, is a gay man in 2018 Delhi, living one unattached hook-up and a monthly loan installment at a time. He is one police complaint away from spending his life in prison for ‘loving somebody from the wrong gender’ and the people he has around him don’t generally make things simpler.

The series, Made in Heaven, is divided into 9 episodes, each one leaves the audience wanting more. Kudos to the writers for a very well written script, with a mixture of witty, emotional, bold and powerful dialogue hitting home. On the face of it, it digs into the chaos that goes behind planning fancy weddings. But at the heart of it, it’s a story that presents the insecurities, traumatic incidents, ambitions, and idiosyncrasies that shape an individual’s life.
