Meesha Shafi, Iffat Omar & Others Booked for Defamation

Special court of the FIA has registered an FIR against singer Meesha Shafi, Iffat Omar & seven others for running a social media campaign against Ali Zafar.

Apart from Meesha Shafi and Iffat Omar, Ali Gul Pir, Hamna Raza, Syed Faizan Raza, Mahim Javed, Fareeha Ayub, Lena Ghani and Haseem Zaman Khan, the FIA Cybercrime Wing has registered an FIR against these individuals for allegedly being involved in the defamation against the singer, Ali Zafar.

SAMAA - #MeToo takes Meesha's twitter to another edgeDating back to April 2018, Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of sexual harassment on Twitter to which Ali Zafar protested against in November of the same year and lodged a complaint to the FIA Cyber Crime Wing. Now, the FIR is registered against the alleged defamers after a two-year investigation. During the process, the accused, being Meesha Shafi, was given three opportunities to defend herself but failed to do so. Although Shafi appeared before the FIA in December, she was not able to substantiate her allegation by providing any evidence or witnesses.

Moreover, when during the process where Ali Zafar was providing evidence against the online defamation, one piece of evidence that struck out was an account which was created about two months before Meesha Shafi took to Twitter to defame fellow singer and friend, Ali Zafar. The account, after being interrogated revealed that it’s first six followers were Meesha Shafi herself, her mother, aunt, lawyer, and two others who are accused by the FIA, Lena Ghani and Haseem Zaman. The account tweeted over 3000 tweets against the singer in a year and also pushed vulgar pictures and narratives against Ali Zafar.

Numerous other social media accounts continued to use the “Me Too” campaign to their advantage to continue the defamation of the singer. However, many of these accounts deactivated once the singer tweeted about involving the FIA in the matter.

The other seven accused either didn’t appear before the FIA despite being summoned multiple times or gave unsatisfactory statements. They were booked after they failed to defend their accusations against Ali Zafar and the allegations against them.
