Coke studio is something for which everyone eagerly waits every year. We never know if it’ll turn out good or bad but the excitement is always at its peak.

This year’s season is the 13th edition of the desired show and is lead by Rohail Hyatt who made a comeback last year after different producers tried their best to maintain the reputation that Coke Studio has built over the past few years. Mostly, the show begins with an epic performance featuring all the artists and is usually a cover of a patriotic or an old famous song for season 11, the show produced a cover of Hum Dekhein Ge.

This year they produced something different for its opening song, and that is an all-women anthem. ‘Na Tutteya Ve‘ featuring Meesha Shafi, Sanam Marvi, Fariha Pervez, Zara Madni, Wajiha Naqvi, and Sehar Gul Khan and is about the resilience of women and their unbreakable spirit.

The song isn’t empowering only because it’s featuring an all-women group, but the lyrics revolve around the sufferings faced by women, and the barriers by the society that don’t let them move forward, despite which they still rise and stand tall, always.

The lyrics are by Shuja Haider and Asim Raza while the song has been composed by Shuja. The song follows the usual format that Coke Studio is now famous for, a fusion of eastern and western musical instruments, but it turns into a rap towards the end, which has been composed and performed by Meesha herself.

“This particular song is talking about equality from a woman’s perspective, using punjabi shayiri to convey the message,” said Shafi in the promotional video. “There’s no aggression, just a beautiful message by a woman who has been labeled a rehmat by God Himself.”

“To explain it simply, this is an awaami female anthem. Many women will relate to it.”

The two other songs performed were, Jaag rahi, featuring Fariha Pervez and Ali Noor. And Dil khirki featuring, Mehdi Maloof.

Coke Studio 2020 will be on a much smaller scale in comparison to the ones in the previous years, due to the restrictions of the on-going pandemic, but Bohemia and Meesha are some of the artists who are making a comeback after many years, this season. The latter was one of the judges for Pepsi Battle of the Bands but is now back with Coke for its latest season.

Now let’s wait and see what’s coming up next.
