MI7: Bike Stunt Mess Up Costs $2.6 Million

The bike stunt for MI7 had apparently taken six weeks to plan and the set costed $2.6 million. According to a source, Tom Cruise was suitably "frustrated" and disappointed.

Mission: Impossible (MI) movies have been one of the most followed franchises since the first one came out in 1996. One of the things that people love about the movies is that its lead actor, Tom Cruise, performs most of his stunts if not all. The thing with stunts is that sometimes they go successfully, and sometimes they fail – while filming MI7, a bike stunt failed and costed the production $2.6 million.

The movie already faced halts and delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the release dates for both MI7 and MI8 to be postponed. Hence, when UK lifted some of the restrictions on filming, the MI7 team rushed to continue shooting the scenes and stunts. However, it all went sideways when videos of smoke emerged from the set.

The bike stunt for MI7 had apparently taken six weeks to plan and the set costed $2.6 billion. According to a source, Tom Cruise was suitably “frustrated” and disappointed.

“This has been a massive challenge to stage and has cost a fortune, not to mention weeks and weeks of construction. Unfortunately, it was miscalculated. The heat and the friction of the tyres meant that when the bike crashed, the cardboard padding sparked and went up in flames. Fortunately, nobody was hurt but it’s a total catastrophe, not to mention extremely expensive for all concerned. Tom is very frustrated. Nobody wants more delays.”

Both MI7 and MI8 were to be filmed back to back by director Christopher McQuarrie, who also directed the fifth and sixth instalments of the franchise. MI7 was initially meant to be released on July 23, 2021 but now has been postponed to November 19, 2021. Same way, MI8 was initially meant to be released on August 5, 2022 but now will be released on November 4, 2022.
