Muslim Community Attacked In Mississauga During Fajr Prayer
On Saturday, the Muslim community performing Fajr were attacked with bear spray in Mississauga, Ontario. Police said worshippers had minor injuries.
In Ontario, during the Fajr prayer, the people worshipping there had to confront and subjugate a 24-year-old man who entered the mosque and attacked the worshippers there with bear spray in the middle of the congregation.
From the National Council of Canadian Muslims, Nadia Hasan told the authorities there were around 20 men in the congregation praying when they were ambushed. Some of the worshippers there left their prayers immediately and stopped the attacker. Nadia said, they pinned him to the ground and seized him until the police arrived.
The man reportedly entered inside the Dar Al-Tawheed Islamic Centre located in Mississauga, Ontario, and “discharged bear spray towards worshippers in the mosque while wielding a hatchet shortly before 7 a.m.,” according to Peel Regional Police.
In a tweet, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau denounced the incident, calling it “very distressing.” I unequivocally oppose this act of violence, which has no place in Canada, and I’ll be thinking about the Muslim community today.
People are clearly shocked and recuperating, according to Nadia Hasan. For the most part, people are still absorbing what has happened and attempting to figure out how to keep their Muslim neighbourhoods safe.
The spray caused minor injuries to the worshipers, the police reported. Mississauga resident Mohammad Moiz Omar has been detained. Police say they’re looking into all possible motives for the crime, and charges are expected to be filed soon.
