Netflix Reveals Cast for Animated Musical ‘Pinocchio’
Netflix has announced the cast for their animated musical version of Pinocchio, including Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, and Finn Wolfhard.
Netflix has announced the cast for their animated musical version of Pinocchio. The movie comes with a twist; it will not be related to Disney’s version of the tale and is instead based on Gris Grimly’s design from his 2002 edition of the 1883 Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Pinocchio will be set during the rise of fascism in Italy under Mussolini.
“After years of pursuing this dream project, I found my perfect partner in Netflix,” Guillermo del Toro said in a statement. “We have spent a long time curating a remarkable cast and crew and have been blessed by continuous support from Netflix to quietly and carefully soldier on, barely missing a beat.”
Cast for Netflix’s Pinocchio
While all roles have not been announced, the cast members have sure been revealed by Netflix.
Gregory Mann
Gregory Mann is a newcomer who will be playing the titular role of Pinocchio in the movie.
David Bradley
David Bradley, known for his role as Mr Filch in the Harry Potter franchise and Walder Frey in the Game of Thrones series, is taking on the role of Mr Gepetto in the movie. Bradley revealed the news in an interview with the Polish website Na Ekranie (“On the Screen”).
Ewan McGregor
Ewan McGregor will be taking on the role of the Talking Cricket in the movie. McGregor is known as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars franchise, Lumière in the live-action adaptation of the musical romantic fantasy Beauty and the Beast and Black Mask in superhero film Birds of Prey.
Ron Perlman
Ron Perlman is known for his voice-over work for various characters in DC Comics based series such as Slade, a version of DC character Deathstroke in the Teen Titans and Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Clayface in Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures, Jax-Ur in Superman: The Animated Series, Orion in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, several villains (Killer Croc, Rumor and Bane) in The Batman, Doctor Double X in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and Sinestro in Green Lantern: The Animated Series.
His role in Pinocchio is not announced yet.
Christoph Waltz
Christoph Waltz is an Academy Award winner who is most famously known for his role SS officer Hans Landa in Inglorious Basterds, and Dr King Schultz in Django Unchained. He has also played the role of James Bond’s nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld in Spectre and No Time to Die.
His role in Pinocchio is not announced yet.
Tilda Swinton
Tilda Swinton is also known for her performance as the White Witch in The Chronicles of Narnia series and the Ancient One in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise. She won an Academy award for her role in the movie Michael Clayton.
Her role in Pinocchio is not yet announced.
Cate Blanchett
Some of Cate Blanchett’s most commercially successful films include The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008), the How to Train Your Dragon film trilogy, Cinderella, Thor: Ragnarok and Ocean’s 8.
Her role in the movie is not yet known.
Finn Wolfhard
Finn Wolfhard is most famously known for his role Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things, for which he he has won Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. He also played Richie Tozier in It and its sequel It: Chapter Two, Pugsley Addams in The Addams Family, and Trevor in the upcoming supernatural film Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
His role in Pinocchio is not yet defined.
John Turturro
John Turturro is an Academy Award winner who has appeared in over sixty feature films and has worked frequently with the Coen brothers, Adam Sandler and Spike Lee. Some of his most famous movies include the Transformer series.
His role in the movie is not known as of yet.
