Opposition Against PM: Asking Imran Khan to Resign

With parliamentary tensions rising in Pakistan; opposition parties have finally decided to speak up and urge Imran Khan to resign.

Given the current situations in Pakistan and the government’s incompetence to provide a final and just solution to most of the problems; opposition parties in Pakistan have taken advantage of this scenario and rallied against Imran Khan to resign so that peace and order can be restored into the country.

On Sunday, 20th September 2020, an all-party conference was held in Islamabad joined by previous Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from London through video conferencing, and ex-president Asif Ali Zardari. All parties agree and have announced a nation-wide protest to demand Imran Khan to resign.

SAMAA - Pakistan opposition parties demand Imran Khan resign as prime minister

“We demand Prime Minister Imran Khan … resign immediately,” the politician Maulana Fazal-ur Rehman told a press conference following a one-day multiparty meeting in Islamabad on September 20. They have clearly announced that only politicians, but all democrats or opposition lawmakers will be in a union and present collective resignations and protests; this includes normal opposition residents as well.

They hope that these protests and collective resignations will force Imran Khan to resign and a new wave of election will surface. Nawaz Sharif, former PM, who has been granted bail on medical grounds finally broke his silence and spoke out against the current PM, saying that the battle is not only with Imran Khan, but it is against those authorities which supported him and brought him into power. “Our struggle is against those who installed Imran Khan and who manipulated elections to bring an incapable man like him into power and thus, destroyed the country,” Sharif said.

The parties have announced the first phase of protests to begin from October-November which will entail planned protests in all major cities within Pakistan such as Karachi, Quetta, Lahore, etc. Furthermore, this will be followed by huge rallies held in the provincial capitals in December and finally, a united march will take place towards Islamabad in January 2021. All this in the hopes to get Imran Khan to resign from his position.
