Pakistan, Germany Unite to Bring Peace in Afghanistan

Foreign Minister of Germany Heiko Maas arrived in Islamabad on Thursday on an official visit. The European diplomat was received by Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi upon his arrival at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement, the Foreign Office said that Shah Mahmood Qureshi emphasised the importance of regular high-level exchanges between Pakistan and Germany and maintaining a steady upward buildup in the bilateral relationship.
“The two foreign ministers reviewed bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. FM Qureshi underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation and collaboration to combat the pandemic holistically. He thanked the German side for its efforts to ensure the earliest possible provision of vaccine through the COVAX initiative,” the statement said.
The Afghan peace process was discussed during the meeting. Qureshi notified his German counterpart on Pakistan’s “steadfast support for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan” and “positive contributions to the Afghan peace process,” the statement said.
“We, under Afghan leadership, want a lasting political solution to the Afghan problem through a comprehensive dialogue acceptable to the Afghans.”
The foreign minister also appreciated Germany’s Heiko Maas for visiting Pakistan during the coronavirus pandemic. Qureshi also thanked the visiting minister for sending extra doses of the coronavirus vaccine to Pakistan.
Pakistan and Germany have been enjoying their collaborations in bilateral relations based on shared interests. The two foreign ministers have regularly been interacting. The Foreign Office revealed that 2021 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Germany.
