Pakistan to Host Trilateral Meeting with Turkey & Azerbaijan

The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Turkey, and Azerbaijan are all set to join a trilateral meeting to address ongoing issues and development strategies.

With Pakistan’s countless efforts to improve its international relations, the previous and current year foresaw several bilateral meetings that attempted to improve trade and relationships between the countries, the most recent being Afghanistan’s leader Ustad Khalili visiting Pakistan. The next on the list is a trilateral meeting!

The foreign ministers of Pakistan, Turkey, and Azerbaijan will meet for the second Pakistan-Turkey-Azerbaijan Trilateral Meeting on January 13, a press statement by the Foreign Office said on Tuesday.

The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Turkey, and Azerbaijan will go over the various issues including “new and emerging threats to regional peace and security”, challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and climate change in the trilateral meeting. The three sides will also discuss different measures that must be taken to achieve developmental targets.

Furthermore, Pakistan, Turkey, and Azerbaijan will also dive into the possibilities of deepening trilateral cooperation in several areas of common interest, including peace and security, trade and investment, science and technology, education and cultural cooperation in the trilateral meeting, the press release stated.

Previously, the first trilateral meeting between Pakistan, Turkey, and Azerbaijan was held in 2017 in Baku. The Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday on a 3-day visit, and during his visit, Cavusoglu has said to hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and call on Prime Minister, Imran Khan, and President, Arif Alvi.

The Azerbaijan Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, who was extended an invitation by the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, is also set to arrive on a two-day trip today. This marks the first bilateral visit from Azerbaijan at the foreign minister-level since 2010 in Pakistan, according to the Foreign Office statement. Turkey, however, has always been on close terms with Pakistan. We hope that this trilateral meeting sees all the success and reach a favorable outcome!
