Peace Prevails: Israel and The UAE Sign Peace Treaty

After what was a long going cold war of sorts, The UAE and Israel have finally come together to sign a peace treaty in Washington D.C.

After what seems a long time, Israel and UAE have finally decided to normalize their relations and sign a peace treaty. Formally known as Abraham Accords Peace Agreement: Treaty of Peace, Diplomatic Relations, and Full Normalization Between the United Arab Emirates and the State of Israel.

With the USA and President Trump playing as the broker between the two states, the normalization of relations between Israel and Dubai has been in the talks for quite some time. On the 13th of September, The United Arab Emirates and Israel agreed to sign the peace treaty in a joint agreement with The United States of America.

The peace treaty was further signed on 15th September 2020, when diplomats from both states flew into Washington D.C, at the White House. Making Dubai the third Arab country to fix and attempt to normalize its relations with Israel. In return, Israel has agreed to stop the annexation of parts of the West Bank.

A joint statement released by the three state officials was: “This historic diplomatic breakthrough will advance peace in the Middle East region and is a testament to the bold diplomacy and vision of the three leaders and the courage of the United Arab Emirates and Israel to chart a new path that will unlock the great potential in the region.”

Moreover, to further improve relations between the two states, UAE unblocked all Israel numbers and has now allowed and established direct telecommunication links to Israel, residents in the UAE can now make direct calls to Israel. Similarly, on 31st August 2020, Israel allowed the first commercial flight to the UAE.

The treaty, however, was taken in skepticism by Muslim countries all around the world. Some are in favor of this happening and some not. Israel and the discussion of Palestine is a rather sensitive issue for them, and even though they wish to normalize situations; the Saudi Prince suggested that for future peace treaties the price should must higher.
