Pervez Musharraf Treason Case Updates
Lahore High Court (LHC) has reviewed Pervez Musharraf's death sentence, and well, they had different thoughts over it.
Pervez Musharraf was sentenced to death in December, 2019. Nevertheless, many Pakistanis were quite against it. Yet, some supported the verdict. Pervez Musharraf’s verdict was not heard by the court on this matter as such. And well, that led Musharraf to challenge the special court’s verdict. This was the first ever time, that a General was accounted and tried under Article 6 of Constitution. However, Lahore High Court took the matter in their hands and well, their take over this is quite astonishing.
According to Attorney General, Ishtiaq A Khan came on behalf of the Government on this case. According to him “The complaint was not filed according to law. The special court which convicted Musharraf was formed without the approval of the cabinet”.
Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, who has been heading LHC also pointed out something. He said “What is a constitution? ! A 12-page book. But a Constitution is your law and such a situation comes under emergency”. “An emergency is part of the Constitution. If a situation emerges, and the government imposes emergency, so would the government be also tried under a treason case? An emergency, if imposed, would be reviewed if it is or not in line with the Constitution. A precedent was set, so anyone who would find it suitable would do it.”
Regardless, the final verdict of the case still remains untold. What seems to be a build up case against General Musharraf, is now taking unexpected turns. But, as a normal citizen, he has his rights. And it includes challenging what is wrong against him. Although, lets see what happens next.
