As trading activities halt all across Pakistan due to COVID-19, PM Khan approves the economic relief package aimed towards the underprivileged and the industries. These not only include monetary benefits but also include the contributions of Ehsaas program. The decision was taken during a meeting on Monday under the PM’s leadership.
The economic relief package will be providing Rs. 3000 per month to seven million daily wagers. Along with helping the poor, the package will also be providing Rs. 200 billion for the exporters. Furthermore, the PM also announced a tax incentive for the construction industry on Tuesday (March 24).
Relief Package: Ehsaas Program
Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh (Adviser to the PM on Finance) met Dr. Sania Nishtar (Special Assistant to the PM on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation) on Sunday. During their meeting, they finalised the relief package to be announced.
Moreover, the Ehsaas program has also announced the launch of a mobile kitchen soup facility – the first bus was inaugrated by Dr. Nishtar at the Faizabad bus stop (between Rawalpindi and Islamabad). This is a project that is being done in collaboration with Saylani Welfare International Trust, to provide food to the daily wagers and labourers especially.
Mobile vans are being used to tackle the issue of the underprivileged going hungry, while ensuring that people are still not gathering at one place. Social distancing is one of the key practices nowadays due to COVID-19. Dr. Sania Nishtar further talked about the Ehsaas-Saylani Langar on Wheels:
“The Ehsas-Saylani Langar on Wheels will not only address the hunger and nutritional needs of the impoverished, but also provide us with an opportunity to connect with them, respond to their requirements and educate them about precautionary guidelines to fight the war against coronavirus.”
