Prime Minister, Imran Khan, to Visit Kabul

In an attempt to improve relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan- Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has planned a one-day trip to Kabul.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan, is all set to visit Kabul for a one-day trip upon the invitation of the Afghan President, Ashraf Ghani. The foreign office released this statement today, that Imran Khan will be leaving for Kabul tomorrow.

This will be Prime Minister, Imran Khan’s first visit to Kabul as he assumed his position in power in 2018. He will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Adviser on Commerce to the Prime Minister Razak Dawood, and other senior officials, the statement added.

“The prime minister’s program includes tete-e-tete with President Ashraf Ghani, delegation-level talks, and joint press stake-out. The focus would be on further deepening the fraternal bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Afghan peace process, and regional economic development and connectivity,” it said.

Imran Khan’s visit to Kabul is supposed to be a part of the improvement plan in bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, according to the Foreign Office, “building on the sustained engagement between the two countries in recent months for enhancing bilateral cooperation in diverse fields”.

Moreover, the Foreign Office announced that before Imran Khan’s visit, Commerce Advisor Dawood had already completed a three-day trip to Kabul as part of the improvement process and “held in-depth discussions on bilateral trade and investment ties and matters related to transit trade.” The Commerce Advisor had also met with the Afghani President, Ashraf Ghani, and discussed several economic and trade prospects between the two states.

During his visit, Pakistan and Afghanistan held a meeting of the Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Coordination Authority (APTTCA) to try and solve the problems hindering the smooth implementation of a revised transit treaty. To further talk and reflect upon these problems, and to improve bilateral relations- Imran Khan will now be visiting Kabul for a one-day trip.
