Rain & Snowfall Bring Death in Balochistan

Rain & snowfall wreak havoc in the country's largest province, Balochistan. Almost 14 deaths have been reported in different parts of the province due to the extreme weather.

There have been reports regarding an extreme weather system that entered Pakistan through its largest province. Almost 14 lives have been lost to this intense weather, which took many citizens off guard. Severe snowfall and showers were recorded that resulted in blocked roads and airways. It’s also reported that the system is unusual and entered from the western side.

The second spell of snowfall has made it harder to travel as well as the motorway has been blocked. Almost 2 feet of snow has fallen. Quetta-Ziarat and Quetta-Karachi highways are closed for traffic and many vehicles are stranded due to the weather. Khojak top near Chaman has also been submerged under the snow.

Met officials have mentioned that Quetta has already broken a record of 20 years during this winter. It has never seen weather that is extreme and uncertain of this extent. Chief Meteorologist Dr. Azmat Hayat Khan said:

“In Qilla Saifullah, the Met Office recorded three- to four-foot snow, which was [more than] double the usual one- to 1.5-foot snow,”

Gas reduction and load shedding are taking place throughout the country. It’s just making lives of citizens quite hard as the temperatures are freezing and gas heaters are very common in those areas. It’s a popular device used by the people to keep themselves warm in such weather conditions but the gas disturbance is just making life miserable and survival difficult.

Due to the strong system entering from the West, it’s likely for Karachi’s temperature to drop further. Karachi will experience a temperature of 5 to 7 degrees during this week and will continue to stay cold till 18th January. Karachiites better gear up for the cold weather as it’s here to stay a for a little longer this year.

Heavy snowfall has also been recorded in Gilgit Baltistan which has resulted in even lower temperatures in the area.
