Resolution For Public Hanging Passed in NA

National Assembly has passed a resolution against child abusers, which proposes to hang culprits publicly.

Child abuse has been on the rise, lately in Pakistan. There have been several cases, where either a kid was harassed in a madarsa or they were raped on streets of Kasur. In either of the cases, the culprits went away with the case with some excuse or other. Usually, people demanded that such culprits should be hanged to death publicly. There were many reasons for them to say so. One, it would kill one such rapist in the society for a sin that is morally, religiously and ethically incorrect. Two, so that others think twice before inclining themselves towards such sin.

Better late than never, National Assembly has taken an action. A bill has been passed in a session of the National Assembly, being presided by Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri. The signatories appealed in the assembly to move from death penalty to public hangings over child abuse. The passed resolution has seen much criticism though. Pakistan People’s Party was against the passed bill. “We cannot put public hanging into practice as it violates the laws of the United Nations,” said Raja Pervez Ashraf. This was to remind members of the parliament that Pakistan is a signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Chaudry Fawad Hussain also tweeted against the bill.

Shireen Mazari also opposed, tweeting,

Here, Politicians, for once thankfully, are looking towards Human Rights in Pakistan. HR, which have usually been ignored since long. Ironically, most human rights violations have taken place from the same party which is bringing in Human Rights as an issue for this bill.

What do you all think about this bill? And do you think Public Hangings will bring in a change in Child Abuse or not?
