Saad Munawar, The Mountain Writer
Saad Munawar, the young and motivated mountain climber who is a world record holder and also loves to document his journey.
Many of us are fans of the cold weather and the scenic & breath-taking mountainous views. Unlike us, there are a few who become mountain climbers and want to experience nature’s beauty with their naked eye and cherish those moments to the fullest. It’s not easy to climb a mountain as it takes months of hard work, training, and a strong will power.
1 – World Record
First ever 3 Mountain Ranges Traverse
Asia is blessed with some of the highest mountain peaks and also some of the most dangerous ones. People come from afar to summit these mountains and we know one such person who holds a world record in mountain climbing. In 2019, Saad Munawar became the first person to traverse all 3 highest mountain ranges in the world covering 665km in 23 days. It included Himalayas, Karakoram and Hindukush. No one has even attempted to traverse all three of them in one go but Saad, along with his friend, has achieved this milestone.
2 – Traversing Throughout the Width of Pakistan
Traveling, and that too on foot, is an integral part of mountain climbing. In the process of completing World Record Traverse, Saad Munawar started from Nanga Parbat on the Indian border in the Eastside and finished up at Tirchmir on the Afghanistan border in the West. Thus, traversing the entire width of the country on foot.
3 – Winter Climbing
Many people like to climb in summers mainly because it’s easier. However, Saad Munawar climbs mountains in winters too. The weather doesn’t stop this motivated individual. In winters, it gets even colder as the temperature drops below -10°C so it’s freezing. He has done a lot of winter climbing adventures in extreme weather conditions. This proves his love for mountains and takes it to another level.
4 – Leading Adventure Teams
“If you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go long, go together.”
That’s exactly what Saad believes in. He has led many teams for mountain adventure activities. He is keen on sharing his knowledge and skills with other mountain lovers. Saad not only believes in sharing knowledge but is also fond of teaching survival skills and other basic skills required to become a mountain climber. Training newcomers and making sure that they are fit enough to achieve their desired goals is what he’s good at.
5 – The Mountain Writer
There’s a reason why he’s called The Mountain Writer, he’s fond of literature and documenting his experience. When Saad wrote his first book on K2 in 2016, he became one of the youngest published travelogue writers in Pakistan. He currently has 2 published travelogues to his name. This unique combination of adventure and literature makes him stand out.
He’s working with his team on another project for this year. It’s currently under process but I’ll still share it with you all as I really liked the idea. United Pakistan Gender Equality Expedition will take place in August 2020. They are promoting unity & inclusivity, gender equality and empowering women at the same time. The mountain they will summit is Spantik, which is located in Gilgit Baltistan. Saad Munawar will lead this expedition and document the entire journey as they reach new heights.
