SAG Awards 2019-Highlights

Screen Actors Guild Awards 2019 had a number of key moments.Just in case you missed them, don’t fret we’ve got you covered!

Black Panther won the award for ‘Best cast in a motion picture’, It’s the first superhero movie to do so. Especially after not receiving much acclaim at the golden globes, the SAG Awards proved to be a breakthrough platform for the movie in terms of worldwide praise and recognition by being acknowledged

Here is what the cast member, Chad Bosewack had to say in the acceptance speech which left a hard-hitting impact on the audience:

“All of us up here know—Andy, we include you, too,” Boseman said. “We all know what it’s like to be told that there is not a place for you to be featured, yet you are young, gifted and black. We know what it’s like to be told there’s not a screen for you to be featured on, a stage for you to be featured on. We know what it’s like to be the tail and not the head. We know what it’s like to be beneath and not above. And that is what we went to work with every day… We knew that we had something special that we wanted to give the world, that we could be full human beings in the roles that we were playing, that we could create a world that exemplified a world that we wanted to see.”

Alan Alda, aged 83 won a ‘lifetime achievement’ award after being diagnosed with Parkinsons disease the previous year and got emotional during his acceptance speech “This comes at a time when I’ve had a chance to look back on my life, and to see what it’s meant to be an actor.” Alda went on to say “I see more than ever now, how proud I am to be a part of our brotherhood and sisterhood.” In spite of being diagnosed with this disease, Alda has not given up on his career and still continues to act as he claims that now more then ever he is able” to see life through another person’s point of view.”

Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek was cast as the lead role in the movie and bagged a SAG Award  in the category ‘Male Actor In A Leading Role.’

Tribute was given to Mercury ; “I thank Queen and Freddie Mercury,” Malek said onstage. “I get some power from him that is about stepping up and living your best life and being exactly who you want to be and accomplishing everything you so desire. I feel that, and he allows us all to feel that. So this is again for him.”
