Sima Kamil – The New Deputy Governor of SBP
Sima Kamil is an experienced banker who was the CEO of UBL from June 2017 to June 2020, and was the first woman to become a CEO of a major bank in Pakistan.
Sima Kamil, previously the CEO of United Bank Limited (UBL), has been appointed the Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Before that, Sima Kamil had been leading Habib Bank Limited’s (HBL) Branch Banking since 2011. Under her leadership, HBL saw a large expansion in their branch network. She managed HBL’s retail, consumer, small and medium enterprises, and rural banking initiatives, along with the it’s wealth management division as the head of the HBL Asset Management Company Ltd. She also developed and launched HBL Nisa, as an attempt to promote HBL services to women.
She launched her career by working as a corporate relationship manager for American Express in Karachi (1986-88), before she moved to ANZ Grindlays Bank. During her 11 years at ANZ Grindlays, Sima Kamil rose up through the company ranks and spent two years working in Melbourne in the mid-1990s. She later returned to Pakistan to become the head of credit for the bank, and later on the corporate regional executive.
When ANZ sold its regional Grindlays operations to Standard Chartered Bank in 2000, Sima Kamil moved to the new parent company to a role as senior credit officer.
