The Increasing Rate of Cybercrime in Pakistan
FIA received 56,000 cybercrime applications in 2019 out of which only 11,000 cases were investigated and only 32 were convicted.
The cybercrime rate has been increasing with time. Although there are forces to stop it but they rarely take action against such crimes. The internet is a vast place and we haven’t even explored most of it. It beholds darkness and vile creatures that are ready to swallow you. It’s obviously being used as a metaphor here, but I hope you get the idea and most of you must have encountered such creatures too.
It’s reported that FIA had received over 56,000 applications regarding cybercrime in 2019. However, 11,000 cases were investigated which isn’t even the half of it and only 32 were convicted. This means that the FIA hasn’t been as productive as they should be. But I’m not here to school them rather tell the importance of their work. Due to them, many of us feel unsafe on the internet.
We live in a society where, I’m sorry to say this, but most of us do not feel safe to go out at night. The streets aren’t safe and nor is the internet for us. I have been a victim of cybercrime like many others and I think I feel like its necessary for such authorities to understand this. I was reluctant to report it because I was so sure that nothing would happen. Hence, I let my perpetrators roam free.
The increasing rate of cybercrime is alarming as there’s no fear of being caught. The victims have no way to receive justice and the ones bullying others are just free to do as they will. I think cyber laws should be made even more strict and FIA needs to be a little more proactive. We trust their abilities to protect this nation from cybercrime but maybe they’re lacking just a bit.
