The ongoing controversy between Xulfi and Nirmala Maghani
Maghani accuses Xulfi of plagiarizing her work
The controversy between Xulfi and Nirmala Maghani is all what has been making headlines across tinsel town.
The indie singer from Umarkot has claimed that Xulfi plagiarized her work, an allegation that he denies.
Maghani claimed that Xulfi borrowed the melody of her single and used it in the latest Coke Studio single “Tu Jhoom”. The single in question is titled “Main Hon Heer, Tu Mera Ranjha”.
The indie singer claimed that she has sent the sample of her melody to Xulfi in June of last year. She hoped that upon hearing it, Xulfi would cast her on the 14th season of the show. However, the singer did not get a response from him.
In a conversation with a local newspaper, Maghani said that she tried contacting Xulfi after hearing the single.
She said, “I have been calling Xulfi since I heard the song and after a day he finally responded by saying ‘I didn’t even download your audio file,’ which isn’t true because all my messages were received with blue ticks.”
Her mentor, Yousaf Salahuddin, also weighed in on the situation. He claimed that “Tu Jhoom” is a complete plagiarized work of his student’s single. He also stated that legal action will be taken against Xulfi.
Xulfi has come out with a response to all these controversies claiming them to be totally false. He claims that he did not plagiarized Maghani’s work. He claimed that he started making the composition for “Tu Jhoom” way before Maghani shared her work.
Xulfi then later went on to say, “My work is not borrowed or without credit, given that what I share with the world is work that relies on the very essence of partnership and collaboration. I hope this to be evident in my entire body of work produced in my career.”
While the controversy between Xulfi and Nirmala Maghani may not resolve soon, one thing is certain.
There is a dire need to implement anti-plagiarism laws to help protect young artists from exploitation. We hope such laws are passed soon to ensure greater protection of intellectual property.
