US Launches Airstrikes Against Taliban

After the peace deal was signed between Taliban and The United States, this is the first attack that US has carried out. Read more to know why.

The US Forces have been in Afghanistan since the 9/11 attack. The Taliban had apparently attacked the World Trade Center, which still remains untold. The Taliban, however, accepted the attack and since then, the US Forces have made their ground in Afghanistan. They launched their Global War on Terror, which had Afghanistan on the top of the list. Well, obviously, the Taliban weren’t really happy about it. This also made them go against their own government and forces.

However, a first move towards peace took place in 2007, but the insurgents were ready to agree to it. They claimed that no negotiations would take place till the time foreign forces are in the country. Different negotiations were held in the last few years but all failed due to some reason or other. The last negotiation was held in February in Doha. Donald Trump agreed on withdrawing forces from Afghanistan. The insurgents also agreed to the peace talks made in Doha.

However, back in Afghanistan, the insurgents didn’t quite agree to the negotiations. “Taliban fighters attacked at least three army outposts in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz last night, killing at least 10 soldiers and four police,” a member of the provincial council, Safiullah Amiri, said.

This made US react. This is the first attack after the negotiations that US has carried out against Taliban. “The US conducted an air strike on March 4 against Taliban fighters in Nahr-e Saraj, Helmand, who were actively attacking an ANDSF [Afghan National Defence and Security Forces] checkpoint,” said Colonel Sonny Leggett in a tweet on Wednesday, adding that it was a “defensive strike”.

Well, it seems unlikely that the peace talks might ever come to an end. And this war seems to continue for a very long time.
