Jazz Up Traditional Sheer Kurma and Lab-e-Shireen This Eid With Chocolate

Bored of the same old traditional desserts you get to eat everywhere you go on Eid? Here is a way to jazz up your traditional desserts.

Want to try a new dessert this Eid but still dreading not going for those traditional ones and ruining the feast? Here are two traditional desserts with an oomph of chocolate to try something new yet stick to traditional dessert so all age groups can enjoy it at the same time and you won’t have to do extra work.

Sheer Kurma (Vermicelli Pudding)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup vermicelli
  • 1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 litre milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped mixed nuts (almonds, pistachios, cashews)
  • 1/4 cup chopped dates
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • A pinch of saffron strands
  • Rosewater and slivered almonds for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat ghee in a pan and add vermicelli. Stir-fry until golden brown.
  2. Add milk and let it come to a boil. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the vermicelli is cooked and the milk thickens.
  3. Add sugar, mixed nuts, dates, raisins, cardamom powder, and saffron strands. Stir well and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.
  5. Garnish with rosewater and slivered almonds before serving.

Jazz it up: You can jazz up Sheer Kurma by adding a modern twist with a Nutella twist. After adding the sugar, stir in 2-3 tablespoons of Nutella to the pudding and mix well until it melts and blends with the milk. The rich and creamy Nutella flavour will add a delightful twist to this traditional dessert.

Lab-e-Shireen (Fruit and Cream Dessert)

Ingredients:

  • 1 litre milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup mixed canned fruits (pineapple, peaches, cherries)
  • 1/2 cup boiled and chopped vermicelli
  • 1/2 cup boiled and chopped falooda (cornstarch noodles)
  • 1/2 cup chopped mixed nuts (almonds, pistachios, cashews)
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1/2 cup whipped cream
  • Cherry and pistachio for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a pan, bring milk to a boil and add sugar. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  2. Add mixed fruits, vermicelli, falooda, mixed nuts, and cardamom powder. Stir well and cook for another 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.
  4. Fold in the whipped cream gently.
  5. Garnish with cherries and pistachios before serving.

Jazz it up: To jazz up Lab-e-Shireen, you can add a twist of chocolate. Melt 100g of dark or milk chocolate and drizzle it over the dessert before adding the whipped cream. The rich and indulgent chocolate flavour will add a luxurious touch to this fruity and creamy dessert.
