An Overview of Bilateral Agreements between Iran & Pakistan

Iran and Pakistan had top-level talks on bilateral & regional issues in the last two days on border commerce, barter trade, security and global issues.

In light of the Iranian Foreign Minister’s two-day visit to Pakistan, Iran and Pakistan had top-level talks on bilateral & regional issues in the last two days on border commerce, barter trade, security and global issues.

The Iranian delegation was led by FM Javad Zarif which included economic and political experts. During the talks, in light of strengthening bilateral ties, Iran announced the opening of a border crossing point with Pakistan for facilitating trade with their neighbour. Next week Iran will open the Rimdan crossing point, located 130km from Chahbahar port in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province.

This is Iran’s fourth visit to Pakistan during the PTI’s government. This trip was part of the high-level exchanges between the neighbouring countries to facilitate bilateral corporation and developing a better understanding of both perspectives on regional and global issues.

In light of border security being a fundamental concern, The Iranian minister praised the measures taken by Pakistan for improved border security. Iran also expressed contentment with the military cooperation between the two countries in his meeting with Gen Bajwa.

While recalling Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei’s long-standing support for the Kashmir cause, Foreign Minister Qureshi informed Javad Zarif about the worsening humanitarian situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He also informed him of India’s illegal actions to change the demographic structure of the occupied territory. In response, Dr Zarif reiterated Iran’s steadfast support for the Kashmir cause.

Foreign ministers of Iran and Pakistan also condemned rising Islamophobia in some European countries and made their disapproval and disappointment of such blasphemous attitude very clear.

Both countries look forward to the further growth of close bilateral cooperation across a diversity of fields.
