Anushka Slams Back At Batting Legend Gavaskar
After the batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar made a sexist comment during his commentary aiming at Virat Kohli, his wife Anushka Sharma savagely clapped back.
Last night during his commentary at a cricket match, former batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar stirred up controversy after he made an extremely sexist and disrespectful remark on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain, Virat Kohli’s performance. The match was against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).
The cricket legend didn’t rise up to challenge as RCB lost to KXIP on Thursday night. The comment that Sunil Gavaskar came up with was unpleasant. Calls were made to the BCCI asking for the removal of Gavaskar from the commentary panel. A statement that Anushka previously posted addressing trolling and favouritism resurfaced. The statement was a result of Anushka’s name being dragged into matters whenever her spouse, Virat Kohli under-performs in any of his cricket matches.
“I have stayed quiet through all the times I was blamed for the performance of my then-boyfriend, now-husband Virat and continue to take the blame for the most baseless things involving Indian cricket. I kept quiet then,” she had written. Anushka and Virat are expecting their first child together.
“Today. I have decided to speak up because someone’s silence cannot be taken as their weakness. I am not and will not be a pawn to be used by anyone’s thoughts or beliefs or agendas and next time you want to use my name to discredit someone or the board or even my husband, do it with facts and proof & leave me OUT of it.”
In yesterday’s match, the KXIP skipper went on to beat a few records on the way to a 69-ball 132—the highest score by an Indian in an IPL game.
To Sunil Gavaskar’s remark, Anushka Sharma clapped back on her Instagram story. While people are taking advantage of this situation and making jokes out of it, many are standing in support of Anushka claiming that dragging a pregnant woman due to this is disgusting, inhumane and misogynistic.
