Around 20 People Killed In Balochistan Earthquake Today

Balochistan was hit by a strong earthquake of 5.9 magnitudes early Thursday morning. The death toll is 20 but is expected to rise.

Some parts of Balochistan were hit by an earthquake early Thursday morning. It killed around 20 people and injured 300. The earthquake is said to be of strong 5.9 magnitudes at the Richter Scale, at 10km depth.

The earthquake was felt in several areas of Balochistan between 3 to 4 in the morning, the earliest reports of the earthquake are said to be 3:20 am. The footage received showed houses shaking and lights falling out. When the strong quake was felt most citizens rushed out of their houses reciting Kalmas and Quranic verses in fear.

According to the seismological center, the epicenter was located near Harnai at a depth of 15km. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) most people deceased and injured are children. The affected areas are Chaman, Sibi, Quetta, Ziarat, Harnai, Zhob, Pishin, and Qila Saifullah in Balochistan. But the most affected and damaged area is Harnai, Balochistan. According to recent reports, Pakistani Army Troops have reached the area with relief and rescue teams. Harnai is located in the east of the Balochistan province with the most amount of coal mines.

An emergency has been declared in all hospitals of the affected areas and all medical staff has been called urgently to handled the huge amount of injured citizens. The death toll is expected to rise as many people were killed when houses collapsed.

Reports have revealed that the injured were rushed to hospitals immediately and those whose treatment could not be delayed were treated on spot under phone torches.

Pakistan bestrides the boundary where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, making the country an easy target for earthquakes.

Rescue and relief teams reached as soon as they could and their operation is underway. And Pakistan Army’s special rescue team is being urgently flown to Quetta and Harnai to deal with the injured.
