As China Tackles Covid-19 Virus Again Asian Games Got Delayed

Because to Covid-19, the Asian Games scheduled for September in Hangzhou, China, have been postponed indefinitely, organisers said on Friday.

Because to Covid-19, the Asian Games scheduled for September in Hangzhou, China, have been postponed indefinitely, organisers said on Friday.

The event was originally planned to take place from September 10 to 25 but has been postponed as China attempts to contain a huge return of diseases in numerous areas of the country.

Hangzhou is fewer than 200 kilometres from Shanghai, the country’s largest metropolis, which has been shut down for weeks in accordance with the governing Communist Party’s zero-tolerance policy for the epidemic.

The decision to delay “was decided by all parties after thoroughly evaluating the covid-19 pandemic scenario and the scale of the Asian Games,” according to the Asian Olympic Council.

The Asian Games, which regularly attract over 10,000 competitors from throughout the area, will have new dates announced “in the near future,” according to the statement.

In April, organisers announced that 56 competing venues for the Asian Games and Asian Para Games had been completed in Hangzhou, a metropolis of 12 million people in eastern China.

They said at the time that the event will be staged under a covid control strategy that “learns from the successful experience” of the Winter Olympics held in Bejing, which were carried out in a stringent Covid-secure shell in February.

After Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010, Hangzhou was set to host the continental tournament for the 3rd time.

Other provincial cities with activities planned were Ningbo, Wenzhou, Huzhou, Shaoxing, and Jinhua.

The Asian Youth Games, which were due to take place in December in the city of Shantou but had previously been rescheduled, will be discontinued, according to the OCA.

The World University Games, which were supposed to start next month in Chengdu but were already pushed back from last year, are also anticipated to be pushed again.
