Space trio aboard the International Space Station returned safely to Earth on Thursday after a six-month mission in orbit.

The Soyuz MS-16 capsule was carrying the three astronauts, two of whom were Russian, Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner, while there was one American amidst the trio, Chris Cassidy. The astronauts landed near Kazakhstan’s Jezkazgan city on Thursday morning, Russian space agency Roscosmos announced. They landed southeast of the town of Dzhezkazgan at 7:54 a.m. local time Thursday.

“Roscosmos cosmonauts Anatoly Ivanishin, Ivan Vagner and NASA astronaut Christopher Cassidy are in good health,” Roscosmos said in a statement.

The space trio was taken by helicopters to Dzhezkazgan after clearing a brief medical checkup. From there, Cassidy will head home to Houston in a NASA plane whilst Vagner and Ivanishin will fly home to Star City, Russia.

Ivanishin, Vagner and Cassidy conducted dozens of experiments in various fields of science during their 196 days in space. As part of additional precautions because of the coronavirus pandemic, the rescue team members meeting the astronauts were tested for infections, and the number of people involved in the recovery effort was reduced.
