Australian Cricket Team All Set To Tour Pakistan Next Year
The Australian Cricket Team are all set to tour Pakistan in March and April 2022, thus ending a 24 year gap since their last tour of the country.
While Pakistan and Australia will meet this Thursday for the semi finals of the ICC T20 World Cup, this wont be their last encounter.
The two teams are all set to meet up again next year when Australia will be touring Pakistan. This marks the first time that the Australians will be touring the country since 1998.
The series will consist of three Test matches, five ODI’s and One T20 that will take place in March and April 2022.
The announcement could not have come at a better time for Pakistan. Prior to this news, both England and New Zealand had cancelled their tours at the very last minute. Both teams had cited security concerns for their withdrawal.
Ramiz Raja, the Chairman of the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board), expressed his excitement over the news. He said, “From a personal point of view, it pleases me no end that we’ll be engaged in a three-Test match series, connoisseur’s delight. Australia playing in our backyard for the first time after a gap of 24 years will be a special treat for the fans.”
He also went on to say, “Likewise, it will be a great opportunity for the Australia cricketers to not only play at our iconic venues but also feel and enjoy the respect, love and hospitality that this great country offers, something which most of their previous generation of cricketers missed out [on] by playing offshore.”
Cricket Australia Chief Executive Nick Hockley had also shared similar sentiments as Raja over the news. He stated that the Australian Cricket Team were excited about the upcoming tour. Hockley also expressed his excitement over future cooperation between both country’s cricket boards.
