#BoycottGeo is Trending on Twitter

#BoycottGeo has been trending on Twitter since morning as a result of retaliation from Khalil ur Rehman's fans over contract cancellation statement by Geo.

Khalil ur Rehman Qamar lashed out at a female journalist during a panel discussion. By now, everyone is aware of this news and has chosen which side to pick. Pakistanis are bashing Marvi or Khalil and sharing their thoughts all over social media. This is what has been happening for the past few days. Amidst all these discussions and outrage, GEO Entertainment released a statement saying they will not be working with Khalil ur Rehman Qamar.

Today, a Twitter trend came to my notice, which was #BoycottGeo. The fans are showing a retaliation against Geo’s statement. The statement was released yesterday, which said:

“GEO Entertainment and 7th Sky Entertainment have suspended four drama serial and one film script contract of Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar until he apologises for using indecent language on a TV show. This was a non-exclusive agreement as he has with several other TV channels.”

In response to GEO’s statement, Khalil ur Rehman said that he will not apologize for his behavior. He also said:

“I’m so fortunate to have an opportunity to sacrifice for my noble cause and submit myself to the will of Allah”

What came as a shocker to me is that people didn’t see his behavior, regardless of the gender of the opponent, and started to support him. It’s actually disappointing to see people with such thoughts expressing their views on national television. Yes, difference of opinion is okay but the way of delivering your opinions should be ethical.

#BoycottGeo has been trending today on Twitter since morning and people have been going crazy over Geo’s contract cancellation announcement. Here are a few tweets for your reference:
