According to the details pertaining to this issue, the Federal Directorate of Education has directed the schools and colleges and all other educational institutions to devise a short-term and long-term approach to cover students’ academic losses.

In regards to the short-term approach, the educational institutions have been ordered to support the students appearing for general examinations and local board examinations scheduled to be held in August 2021 in particular. Moreover, special instructions have been given to these schools and colleges to identify at-risk children through classroom observations and evaluations.

These educational institutions have been instructed to add a zero period into their timetables either during school hours or after school ends, or a time slot on Sunday to facilitate the students who have been faced with severe academic losses. It has also been advised that these educational institutions categorise students into different groups, for example, those struggling in mathematics should be placed in one group regardless of their grade level.

As for the long-term approach, schools have been asked to plan for the next two to three years in advance and come up with strategies to counter the impact of the pandemic on the academic losses that students have undergone.
