Emergency Medical Supplies Provided After Protest

Emergency medical supplies have been dispatched to doctors in Quetta, Balochistan after a protest which took place yesterday.

Yesterday in Quetta, Balochistan, many young doctors came out on the streets to protest. They were not provided with medical supplies and had to treat COVID-19 patients without it, which put their lives at risk. The protest received a lot of hype on the internet, especially Twitter. A hashtag was also trending regarding the protest which was #ProtectDoctorsofBalochistan.

Today, DG ISPR tweeted that necessary medical supply has been dispatched to Quetta in order to help medical staff fight COVID-19. The PPEs and lack of other protective gear made it difficult for them to treat patients. Hence, they started the protest.

DG ISPR also tweeted:

“Doctors & paramedics are the frontline soldiers in this war. Most advanced nations / govts are finding it extremely difficult to fight this pandemic. Pakistan Govt is striving hard to acquire & supply the required resources. In this hour of distress we must remain patient and steadfast.”

The police had arrested around 30 doctors yesterday during the protest. The protest rally violated section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure imposed by govt of Balochistan. Due to the lack of protective gear, a total of 15 doctors had been tested positive for COVID-19 and the government still chose to ignore the lack of medical supplies.

The protest, however, was done on roads by flashing placards that had demands written all over them. Doctors tried to break the cordon, which led to some clashes between the police and doctors. However, the medical supplies have been dispatched according to DG ISPR.
