According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Navy, ex-Pakistan Navy serviceman and cricketer, Fakhar Zaman was honoured for his achievements in the cricket field and his association with the navy at a special award ceremony held at the Naval Headquarters.
According to the press release, Fakhar Zaman joined the navy in 2007 as a sailor. His extraordinary cricket skills were spotted in his early years at the Pakistan Navy when he went on to represent the Pakistan Navy in many tournaments and returned with many laurels.
Fakhar Zaman made his debut in international cricket in 2012 when he participated in the International Defence Cricket Challenge Cup 2012 held in Australia whilst still in naval service. At the tournament, Zaman triumphed as the best player of the tournament. In recognition of his cricketing skills, he was rewarded with Sanad-e-Tahseen by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
The statement added that in light of Fakhar Zaman’s skills and extraordinary talent in cricket, the Pakistan Navy “graciously provided him the opportunity to continue his career in cricket” and join the Pakistan national cricket team.
After receiving the honorary rank, Fakhar Zaman took to his Twitter to thank CNS Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi for bestowing him with Honourary Lieutenant Rank of Pakistan Navy.
“This could never be possible without prayers of family, friends. Special thanks to @THEREALPCB for supporting me during my career,” he wrote.
The award ceremony was attended by civil and military officials, and dignitaries from the Pakistan Cricket Board, former cricket players and Zaman’s family members.
