Filmmaker Jami Breaks The Silence About Being Raped

Filmmaker Jami recently revealed on twitter that he was raped by a powerful person in Pakistan's media industry.

Film director Jamshed Mehmood, popularly known as ‘Jami’, broke the silence and talked about why he strongly supports the #MeToo Movement. He revealed that he was raped thirteen years ago by a Pakistani media giant.

He elaborated as to why he strongly supports sexual harassment victims stating, “Because, I know exactly how it happens now – inside a room, then outside courts and inside courts. How a survivor hides, confides…”

Further recalling his traumatizing experience of being raped, Jami wrote “I froze not sure why yesss it really happens and happened to me. Till this day 13 years have passed, I curse myself why I didn’t take his eyes out but I was so close to this guy a friend, doing his mega shoots for his mega high-end books and museum launches etc maybe that’s why my system shut down…”

As horrific as it sounds he talked about how even with his big body frame than the harasser he couldn’t retaliate due to shock, and that he couldn’t believe what was happening to him.

Jami tried to confide in few friends but no one took him seriously, regarding which he wrote, ” told my few close friends but no one took it seriously. I told them so many times with the name of this tycoon but as if I’m a joker or something. YES high end friends top-end friends in media didn’t do anything.”

In order to recollect his sanity and reboot, Jami spent six months or more in therapy and medication but nothing seemed to work; therefore, he left the country. He also wrote about his rapist attending his father’s funeral despite his objection and how up till now he cannot gather up the courage to name him.

Jami told people on twitter that he is writing about his experience after 13 years because the #MeToo Movement is under attack because of the suicide case of a college professor because of alleged claims of harassment.

Film Director, Jami also said, “I know it’s a suicide what I’m writing right now, but this is important before they harm the movement. I know now they all will attack me also.”
