First Commercial Flight Between UAE & Israel
The first Etihad Airways flight to Israel returned to Abu Dhabi on Monday with an Israeli travel and tourism delegation on board.
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – Etihad Airways the flag carrier of the UAE made history today by being the first GCC carrier to operate a commercial passenger flight to and from Israel. This has further cemented the normalisation deal between the two countries.
Etihad Airways Flight 9607 landed at Israel’s Ben-Gurion international airport just after 7 am on Monday.
The UAE carrier said it had made “history”.
“Etihad has become the first Gulf airline to operate a passenger flight to Israel. And this is only the beginning,” the airline said on Twitter. Etihad said it plans regular passenger flights between the countries in the future and was launching a dedicated Hebrew website.

Mohamed Mubarak Fadhel Al Mazrouei, Chairman, Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Today’s flight is a historic opportunity for the development of strong partnerships here in the UAE, and in Israel, and Etihad as the national airline, is delighted to be leading the way. Back in August, UAE and Israel had signed a normalisation deal with intergovernmental and business agreements. MAssive resentment has come from the Palestinians who have called the deal a betrayal of a longtime Arab stance that recognition of Israel would come only after Palestinians obtain an independent state of their own.
