Hadiqa Kiani’s Tribute to Kashmir is Removed by YouTube

Hadiqa Kiani had recently released a song called Diami Bahar as a tribute to Kashmir Martyr Day - however, YouTube has removed it and "systematically silenced" the region once again.

Hadiqa Kiani had recently released a song called Diami Bahar with Ali Tolga as a tribute to Kashmir Martyr Day and the failed coup attempt in Turkey. The song had been sung in Turkish and Urdu, showing the unity between the two countries. However, according to Hadiqa Kiani, YouTube has removed her tribute to Kashmir and Turkey.

“Our tribute to Kashmir was removed from YouTube a few hours ago,” she posted. “There seems to be a systematic silencing taking place but we will not be silenced because our message is of love and peace.”

The removal of Diami Bahar is another classic case of “systemic silence” by the social media platforms as Hadiqa put it. Many posts that are focusing on Kashmir get deleted on the daily basis, not giving the region the attention it needs as well as the support.

However, Hadiqa Kiani also mentioned that Kashmir Civitas, an international organisation that is working on protecting the Kashmiri rights, is working on re-uploading the video as soon as possible. She will be keeping her fans updated.

When will the systemic silence end, so that the Kashmiris can raise their voices and have the resources to speak for their rights? Had you listened to Hadiqa Kiani’s ode to Kashmir before YouTube removed it? Let us know what you think in the comments.
