Harbhajan’s Wife Explains the Afridi Donation
Harbhajan's wife Indian actress Geeta Basra explained why he donated to the Afridi Foundation, which led to backlash last month.
Some time ago, former Indian cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh came under fire for donating to Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi’s foundation to fight against COVID-19. However, Harbhajan’s wife Indian actress Geeta Basra explained why there was a donation to the Afridi Foundation.
Harbhajan knows what his country means to him and doesn’t want to explain an act of humanity. He lives for India and will die for India. His country will always come first. Whenever he has played cricket, he did it with his heart. And everyone knows what India means to him.
This goodwill gesture was to help Afridi, with whom they have played cricket and have years of friendship. Afridi is doing his bit for his country. They tried spreading the word to their fans all over the world, inspiring more people to support his good work.
Geeta Basra also reminded people to not bring religion into this matter, as even the virus wasn’t making any discrimination. Harbhajan’s wife further added that there would have been a donation even if it wasn’t Afridi Foundation and was any of the other teams that would have sought help.
Shahid Afridi has thanked both Yuvraj and Harbhajan in his tweet after the donation, stating that both cricketers were “pillars of support”, and their bond shows that “love and peace transgresses borders when it comes to humanity”.
