HBO’s Chernobyl should be on your watch-list

A television miniseries originally written by Craig Mazin centered around the 1986 nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, Ukraine.

Following the release of HBO’s Chernobyl, the internet was filled with withdrawals from the final season of Game of Thrones. In my opinion this show didn’t get the hype it deserved. I say so after binge watching it earlier this month and with good reason.

Chernobyl is a 5 episode miniseries centered on the April 1986 accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. A situation portrayed to the world as ‘contained’ at the time but it clearly wasn’t.

Initially I was hesitant to start the show because it seemed morbid. You would know what I mean if you’ve watched the trailer. Clearly I was mistaken. It is a rich drama with the right amount of suspense that would captivate your attention.

The show runners have done an incredible job covering every detail of the incident. What’s even better is the aftermath of the event was illustrated through several characters. The role of politicians and scientists was standard but they also portrayed it through ordinary people. So there is no one main character.

The show is quite impressive and very educational at the same time. Apart from the side effects of nuclear radiation, it even uncovers how governments react to such national disasters.

Take my honest opinion on this; Chernobyl is definitely worth your while.
