Kami Sid’s Short Film ‘Rani’ Selected for Cannes 2019
Rani, a short film featuring Kami Sid has been selected by the London Film Academy to be showcased at Cannes Film Festival 2019
Kami Sid has been known to break the norms as she is the first Pakistani fashion model to receive a huge amount of attention and has remained under the spotlight ever since. Kami is also an actress and an LGBTQ rights activist and has been running her own organisation in Karachi.
Rani is a short film about a transgender who defies all odds and sets out to take care of a baby who has been abandoned, featuring Kami Sid as the main lead role where she plays the part of a toy vendor to earn livelihood instead of indulging into acts that are considered unacceptable in our society.
This news was shared by GrayScale, a production company who produced it, on their facebook page where they mentioned that “Rani has been selected by the London Film Academy to be part of a special showcase of films, at the Short Film Corner of the Festival de Cannes”.
This short film has been written and directed by Hammad Rizvi. It has won many awards in the past from international festivals like the Special Jury Award for Impact at Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival 2019 and the Best Narrative Short Award at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival in March.
This year many other films from Pakistan have been selected for Cannes Film Festival along with Rani. Congratulations to everyone who has been a part behind creating this outstanding film and best of luck.
