Met Gala Has Been Postponed Due to Coronavirus

Many events have been cancelled or postponed. Due to the situation in the whole world, everyone is trying to avoid huge gatherings and whatnot. Hence, Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief for Vogue, has announced to postpone the Met Gala. However, she did not give any future date or confirmation about the event.

The Met Gala has become a blockbuster event over the years. It’s a fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This event is also called “the jewel in New York City’s social crown” because of the people that attend this event every year. It’s one of the most prominent, prestigious and exclusive social events in the world.

Anna Wintour said in her article:

“One day that will not arrive on schedule will be the opening of the Costume Institute’s exhibition, About Time. Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, About Time, and the opening night gala, will not take place on the date scheduled. In the meantime, we will give you a preview of this extraordinary exhibition in our forthcoming May issue.”

She posted an article on Vogue’s website and talked about the situation caused due to coronavirus. In 2019, the Met Gala raised about $15 million dollars from over 500+ guests. Brands are eager to secure a table at the Gala, which is why they often tend to pay around $200,000. Tickets usually cost around $35,000 each. We’ll be seeing a preview of this year’s Gala in Vogue’s May edition.
