Nida Yasir Faces Backlash Over Insensitive Interview
Once again, morning show host, Nida Yasir has faced extreme public resentment after she invited parents of the deceased Marwah.
Nida Yasir recently invited the parents of the deceased Marwah (check out the full story here) to her morning show that airs on ARY Digital. After the interviewed aired on national television, it has been under fire once again.
Marwah was a victim of child sexual assault and murder. Nida Yasir, at the beginning of the issue, stated that the tragedy needed to be addressed publicly so that it can gain the attention it requires. She further, solidified her argument by convincing the parents of the deceased 5-year-old that chances of witnesses coking forth are going to be higher once they talk about the case on the platform.
Nida during the entirety of the interview forced out details of the incident and the investigations that took place and have been taking place ever since the tragedy surfaced earlier this month.
After clips from this interview surfaced on social media, Nida Yasir began to receive massive hate for being so ignorant towards the family members of the departed soul. Many speculated that the interview was just another scheme to increase their ratings. Furthermore, Nida is being criticized for continuing the show despite Marwah’s mother and grandmother breaking down as they recalled events of the nation-wide tragedy. She probed them at length about the brutal rape and torched body of their beloved daughter, Marwah.
Despite, all the facts known with official autopsy reports public, Nida Yasir continued to question details of how Marwah disappeared and the state in which she was found. An extremely soul-crushing clip of the interview is circulating where the mother breakdowns after being asked how she knew that her daughter was raped, while the father stutters, trying to answer Nida’s questions. The heart-wrenching clip shows how traumatized the family members are and their expressions as they recall the events after being pestered into doing so.
Following the airing of the interview, the nation presented their resentment as the hashtag, Ban Nida Yasir started to trend on Twitter with thousands of users tweeting using that hashtag. Nida Yasir since then has replied to a few comments on her Instagram.
In the age of the new privatized media, there is a dire need for there to be a check by national authorities on how cases like Marwah’s are being addressed. Although there is a public outcry after this interview circulated across Pakistan, there is a need for those demanding for her show to be banned, to file a complaint to PEMRA via their social media accounts or by calling their number.
