Park Lane Reference: Zardari’s Indictment Deferred Again
The indictment in the Park Lane Reference is deferred once again to July 6 as there were no arrangement for former President Zardari's participation.
Initially, the indictment was supposed to happen on June 11, but had to be shifted to June 26 while telling the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to make arrangements for participation of the ailing chairman of Omni Group. However, the indictment in the Park Lane Reference is deferred once again to July 6 as there were no arrangement for former President Zardari’s participation.
When asked about his lack of presence, Zardari’s counsel Advocate Farooq H. Naek stated that there were no directives issued in regards to bring in the former president on video link.
Judge Mohammad Azam Khan remarked on the possibility of Zardari coming in person for the indictment in the Park Lane reference, but the advocate replied that it is difficult to travel in Pakistan due to COVID-19 and the recent pilot scandal about the many fake licences.
Furthermore, Naek mentioned that ex Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani attempted to attend as many sessions that he could, but in the end had gotten infected with COVID-19.
Mr Zardari has been accused of being involved “in extending loan and its misappropriation by M/s Parthenon Private Limited, M/s Park Lane Estate Private Limited and others.”
