Shehbaz Sharif appears in accountability court as the remand ends

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) exhibited Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Shehbaz Sharif in an accountability court on Tuesday with reference to a case relating to the Ashiana housing scheme, as his 10-day physical remand finished.

Strict security arrangements were set up on courses prompting the court premises with barricades installed in a few places as Shehbaz was presented in court. Nationals driving to office and schools confronted serious burden.

On October 6, Shehbaz Sharif was arrested by NAB for being alleged in a multi-billion rupees housing scam, the Ashiyana-e-Iqbal Housing Project, having “meddled in board issues and taking measures disregarding the law by wrongfully dropping the agreement of Lateef & Sons contractors in 2013”.

He was arrested inside the anti-graft watchdog’s Lahore office where he was called to record his statement before a consolidated examinations group regarding the Punjab Saaf Pani Company case.

In a point by point proclamation issued later, the accountability watchdog blamed Shehbaz for misusing expert and acting in conspiracy with Fawad Hassan Fawad and others to wrongfully cancel contact granted to an M/s Chaudhry Latif and Sons for framework advancement of the venture.

Addressing the journalists outside the accountability court, PML-N representative Marriyum Aurangzeb precluded allegations from securing defilement against the former chief minister, asserting that he had worked “day and night” neglecting undertakings of the province.

“The number of security personnel deployed here [outside the court] is indicative of their fear,” she said.

A day after his arrest, an accountability court remanded Shehbaz Sharif in NAB’s custody for ten days.
