Sindh Govt Launches Mental Health Helpline

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced the launch of the Sindh Mental Health Authority helpline. Due to the pandemic, many people who are already facing mental health issues are suffering even more. Even people who aren’t facing any mental health issues are stressed out to the situation. It’s hindering their daily life tasks and their whole life, basically.

CM Murad Ali Shah said:

“The helpline has been established to combat the psychological crisis that has emerged amid the coronavirus outbreak. The coronavirus [outbreak] has given rise to mental stress, depression, anxiety and other psychological problems.”

The ones who are already facing mental health issues can’t go to anyone. It’s considered as a taboo in Pakistan. No heed is given to such people and they’re criticized if they talk about it. However, our newer generation is much more open to talk about mental health and realize its importance.

Anyone who needs assistance can call on mental health helpline 111-117-642. By adding code 021, you will be redirected to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). By adding code 022, you will be redirected to Sir Cowasjee Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry (SCJIP) in Hyderabad. Both facilities have the top psychiatrists available that are ready to help anyone in need. The helpline is available to assist you from 8 am to 3 pm.

How can you or anyone help people with mental health issues?

First of all, do not discuss coronavirus or the current situation with them. The increasing number of cases or deaths should also not be mentioned. Instead, talk about the positive news such as the number of recoveries. It’s important to take care of people suffering from any mental health issues and not mock them for it. We’re already living in a society that marginalizes them and put them aside.

Mental health is just as important and crucial as physical health. Because of coronavirus, this issue has increased and during lockdown, there’s little to no help for these people. Let’s be responsible and not spread unnecessary information that can harm anyone around us.
