Some People Can’t Admit Their Fault But Why?

Some people are okay with saying "Oops I was wrong" while others just can't do that and start explaining. Here is why this happens.

Some of us are good with critical remarks and believe that being wrong and accepting it makes us grow. While others are not so good at accepting mistakes instead their defence mechanisms kick in once they realize they were wrong.

For instance, your mom insisted that we should leave home early to be on time for the wedding event but you insisted that no one will come that early. When you reach the banquet you realise they are halfway through the dinner. Or your dad asks you to get some milk for the tea he has to drink when they reach home and you say that there is plenty of milk at home. Once you reach home you realize there is no milk left. For some, it’s easy to say “Oops I was wrong” for others not so much.

Let’s see why it is so hard to accept fault for some people.

Some people have such a delicate ego and low self-esteem, as well as a poor “psychological constitution,” that acknowledging fault or being incorrect is too risky for their egos to endure. Acknowledging that they were mistaken, absorbing that fact, would be so harmful to their psychological well-being that their defence systems do something extraordinary to prevent it: they distort their view of things to make it (truth) less frightening.

Their defensive systems safeguard their fragile egos by modifying the realities in their heads, rendering them no more incorrect or responsible. Some people’s egos are so fragile, their self-esteem is so fragile, and their “psychological constitution” is so fragile that acknowledging a mistake or being incorrect is simply too risky for their egos to bear.

Accepting that they were mistaken, absorbing that fact, would be so harmful to their psychological well-being that their defence systems do something extraordinary to prevent it: they distort their perspective of the things to make it (truth) less frightening. Their defensive systems safeguard their fragile egos by modifying the facts in their heads, making them incorrect or responsible.

To get away from accepting their mistakes they make up statements like “the last wedding I attended I reached early and had to wait so long for others to arrive” or “we had milk last I checked in the morning.”

People that engage in this conduct on a routine basis are, by necessity, psychologically weak. However, many find it difficult to accept that evaluation since they look against the outside community to be boldly maintaining their ground and refusing to back down, both of which are traits we connect with strength. Psychological rigidity, on the other hand, is a sign of weakness, not strength. To safeguard their fragile egos, many people feel forced to hold their position.

It’s unpleasant to admit we’re at fault, and it damages anyone’s ego. Dealing with the truth and accepting responsibility for our mistakes demands emotional strength and fortitude. The vast majority of people. When individuals can’t acknowledge they’re wrong when they can’t handle the idea that they’re human, it’s because their ego is so weak that they can’t just pout and get over it — they have to distort their sense of reality and contradict clear truths to justify not being wrong from the start.

It is completely up to you how you react to such individuals. The one blunder we must prevent is conceiving of them as unyielding. When one realises he or she has made a mistake, the customary reply is to accept it, either completely or partially. Some people, despite overwhelming proof, refuse to accept they are incorrect because of their fragile egos. If a person can’t cope with being mistaken on a psychological level, they may try to reject facts to defend their behaviour or views.
