 TRENDING DESSERT PLACES IN KARACHI

LUSH CRUSH

Brightly lit hanging bulbs, colorful walls, bright pink sofa chairs and distinguish pleasant smell of candles surrounded the atmosphere in Lush crush”, the perfect place to curb the cravings if creamsicles and for a healthier alternative fruit Popsicle’s in this sweltering heat of Karachi. What instantly clicked into my mind was the “Home-made” the store had on its menu which noted down the prices scribbled nicely onto chalkboards making it all the more colorful the price range also seemed extremely economical ranging from 120-250 Rupees. I tried the flavor Lemon mojito flavor which was tangy and soul with hints of sweetness cutting through which cut through the tanginess if the lemon, I thought it’s extremely refreshing and a good alternative from the mojito drink specially in this weather. The Popsicle definitely packed a punch and was not watered down at all this helped incorporate more of the flavors ,it’s a healthier alternative to Ice creams, and being organically homemade adds to the plus points of being free of preservatives, I prefer this to ice pop Co it’s direct competitor which also recently entered the market, their creamsicles seemed to be much more powdery and chalky sad compared to Lush Crush. I deemed it a place which is definitely a pit stop every week o beat the heat in Karachi’s boiling heat while being light on the pocket.

HEYDAY

Whilst strolling in dolmen one thing which instantly caught my eye was “Heyday” with its neon lights on the signboard and nicely dressed up serving staff dressed according to the theme of this shop. It made me reminiscent of Pops choklit’ shop, only present in my memory of the times I would binge read Archie’s comics. The setup of this is present in a small section where everything is done in front of the customer. I opted for their soft serve ice cream “Richy Rich” from their Hip Hop cone menu, The cone was fresh and crunchy as well as the soft serve which tasted creamy however the fudge sauce poured on top was too sweet for my liking, and being a fudge sauce I could not detect any toffee fudge flavor, it tasted like over sweet chocolate drizzled above, personally I would not go back to have it a second time given the price of 200 for a simple cone.

D’OH

When I stepped behind the counter at D’oh” to place my order for a Nutella filled churro the aroma of cinnamon and freshly cooked pastry bread filled the air, in a matter of ten minutes I received my order, a long churro wrapped in butter paper to make it easier to eat, and instead of the regular dip on the side it was in fact filled with the topping, having a Crunchy exterior, oozing with warm Nutella and wrapped in Cinnamon sugar the piping hot churro was delectable and a perfect combination of sweet and savory, nominally priced at 250 rupees it was worth the money and a great snack.

THE CRAVE BAR

As i walked into the quaint little store the wisp of freshly made donuts filled the air, portions of dough wrapped in conical cylinders were placed behind the counter attached on the walls, left to rise and then bake the delicious doughnut cone.On the other side was placed the machine, in which the cones were revolving and rotating whilst being baked a 360 degree turn was being given to these cones so that they received complete heat exposure while cooking. “The crave bar” was done up quite nicely, but there was indeed an influx of customers which they were unable to accommodate, physically into their store premise. When the store owner Tayyab who was behind the counter himself readily taking orders and writing them down in chronologically sorted sticky notes, was asked about how he would overcome this issue he said when the store was started initially which was merely a month ago they had no idea the demand would be so high and the customers would pour in at such a great amount, that too everyday which he claimed they were all pleasantly glad about but if they had any idea before they would’ve set up at a more vast location.

The waiting time allotted to most customers was a rough 20-35 minutes, also resulting in many customers being lost due to the lengthy amount of waiting time for just one cone. Personally I felt, it’s worth the wait and the price at 350 rupees per cone, can’t say the same about the calorie intake which I thought about much later after indulging in my guilty pleasure A doughnut cone, which was wrapped in Cinnamon sugar and nuts making me reminiscence of churros, laced with Nutella sauce inside and filled with creamy lotus soft serve and topped with a Ferrero Rocher and topped with more Nutella sauce so one could just not get enough and to finish it off after much struggle of eating the cone quickly so it wouldn’t melt, partly owing to Karachi’s heat wave and partly because the ice-cream was placed in a freshly made piping hot doughnut cone, when I reached the end there was a truffle placed which was indeed a delightful surprise for my taste buds, it was a dark chocolate truffle which helped cut through the extreme sweetness, the combination of both hot and cold appealed to me on a great level and I for one would definitely go back for another round when I’m up for such a heavy dessert.
