Umar Akmal's Sentence Was Reduced From 3 Years to One and a Half ...

Umar Akmal had submitted an appeal, against the 3 year ban imposed on him, in May 2020. The original ban was imposed on him by PCB’s disciplinary committee back in April 2020 due to his failure to report two incidents of contacts made by suspicious persons before Pakistan Super League Season 5 started.

Akmal was required by the Code of Conducts of the PCB Anti-Corruption Unit to report the incidents; his failure to report the two incidents led him to breaching Article 2.4.4. of the formerly mentioned Code of Conducts.

Tayyab Rizvi, the batsman’s legal counsel, stated that they were “grateful to the independent adjudicator for granting them relief” but the decision was “not what they had thought [it would be]”. He believes that “the punishment can be reduced further”.

Umar Akmal also agreed with Rizvi, saying that he would “try to get the ban reduced further”.

“I am not satisfied with the decision. I will decide on the next step after discussing with my lawyer and family.”

Do you think that Umar Akmal’s ban was justifiably reduced from 3 years to 18 months? Do you agree with Umar and his legal counsel that it can be reduced further? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
