In an ode to Pakistan’s renowned national songs, Coke Studio has released a video paying homage to these anthems. The video is in celebration of Pakistan Day and part of their Ao Ehad Karain campaign. The video takes Pakistanis down memory lane as the compilation includes Watan Ki Matti by Nayyara Noor, Pakistan Pakistan by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and others.
Shot in some of the more urban historical locations of Pakistan, Coke Studio’s production has aligned each song with the context of its history to give a more wholesome trip down memory lane. The video begins on a softer note with Nayyara Noor’s Watan Ki Matti followed by Allan Faqir’s Itnay Baray Jeevan Sagar. The song picks up pace as Coke Studio takes viewers back to the 1965 war which is brought to life with Jaag Raha Hai Pakistan played by the international award-winning 52-piece GHQ Brass Band of Pakistan in front of the Pakistan Monument. Their attire and the sound of their music are a fond recall of the sensation most taranaas of Pakistan have in them.
Another notable move by Coke Studio’s production is that the choir that accompanies the band consists of fresh new faces. Instead of featuring mainstream artists, the video features young urban singers. This accumulation of the youth and the seasoned musicians highlights the youth’s homage to the big and historic figures behind Pakistan. Coke Studio’s idea of today’s generation taking their spin on classics is something that has resonated with the public as the video has garnered almost a million views in less than two days.
Another aim of Coke Studio was to bring together the different ethnicities of Pakistan together along with the minorities and harmonize them to a single tune- recreating Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s authentic vision of Pakistan.
Ao Ehad Karain itself promotes the message that it is never too late to start over and complement one another.
